Higashiyama area, where you can experience Kyoto’s rich history through sites like Kiyomizu Temple and Yasaka Shrine, is home to this iconic structure also known as “Yasaka no To” (Yasaka Pagoda). Said to have been originally built by Prince Shotoku during the Asuka period, the current pagoda was reconstructed in 1440 (Eikyo 12) by Shogun Ashikaga Yoshinori. This five-story pagoda, one of the oldest in Kyoto, enhances the scenic beauty of Higashiyama.

Hokanji Temple’s Yasaka Pagoda has a history of over 500 years. It is loved by many as one of the representative historical buildings in Higashiyama, Kyoto, and exudes the atmosphere of the ancient capital of Kyoto. An experience that touches on over 1,400 years of history

 

After a tour of the temple grounds, which are usually closed to the public, you can learn about the history and culture of Hokanji Temple and Higashiyama through a sermon by the deputy chief priest. Afterwards, an aperitif party will be held, and participants will have a natural conversation about this special experience that is unique to Kyoto.

After the party at Hokanji Temple, we will serve you a full-course Kyoto-style French meal at Akagane Resort, located about one minute on foot along the traditional Kyoto-style Nene-no-michi street. You can enjoy your meal surrounded by the beautiful greenery of Higashiyama.
