Founded in 1870, Funazuru is a long-established Japanese inn and restaurant located on the banks of the Kamo River. It is a Five-story tower Japanese-style building that was registered as a tangible cultural property in 2012, and is perfect for holding parties filled with the seasonal atmosphere that is unique to Kyoto.

The “kawayuka” on the Kamo River has now become a seasonal feature of summer in Kyoto.
Kiyamachi-dori is lined with countless long-established Kyoto businesses, including teahouses, since the Edo period, and is also known as the setting for many literary works.
In this area, where the atmosphere of the ancient capital can be seen everywhere, a historic five-story Japanese-style building called “Funatsuru” quietly stands, immersed in the slow flow of time. It was registered as a tangible cultural property in 2012.

Funatsuru has been a traditional Japanese inn and restaurant for many years. Its history dates back to 1870. It is a place where refined people gather day and night, and has long been loved as a salon for literati and artists. Its stately presence, a collection of the best of Japanese-style architecture that has stood the test of time, has created a strong presence on the banks of the Kamo River to this day. The indescribable charm that has been created over the past 150 years remains the same as it was in the past. Now infused with the breath of modern times, it has begun to carve out a new chapter in its history as FUNATSURU KYOTO KAMOGAWA RESORT.
Venue Introduction
Grand Ball Room
The interior is decorated with artisanal techniques, such as a transom that projects the silhouette of Higashiyama onto a single board. The main banquet hall boasts an impressive 4.9m high ceiling, which has been used since ancient times in Shoin architecture to express high status.
Gallery Room
This artistic venue, where elegance and modernism are harmoniously combined, features a ceiling painting of carp that emits a splendid glow. This is an artistic party venue where you can enjoy up close the works of painter Komura Daiun, who was a master of Japanese painting who left a major mark from the Meiji period to the early Showa period and was involved as a cultural figure in “Funatsuru.”
VIP room
The wallpaper has an elegant texture made from washi paper. It is a private and calm space perfect for a small group of people to have a relaxed chat.
Terrace
With nothing blocking your view, you can enjoy a panoramic view of 36 peaks of Higashiyama. Looking down, you can see the Kamo River, one of Kyoto’s most famous rivers, spreading out before you in an open, spacious venue.
Kawayuka
The “kawayuka” is a seasonal feature of summer in Kyoto. The wooden floors lined up along the Kamo River create a beautiful and tasteful scene. It is one of the largest in Kyoto and can accommodate up to 100 people.
