Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art is the oldest existing public art museum in Japan.


It opened in November 1933 as the “Tairei Memorial Kyoto Museum of Art” to commemorate the Imperial Ceremony of Emperor Showa. In 2020, it was reopened as a new museum with a contemporary design.。
In addition to the exhibition spaces, the public areas such as the Hall of Light and the Japanese garden can also be used as unique venues for parties, social gatherings, networking events, press conferences, and more.

Venue Introduction

Central Hall

 

A large staircase leads from the entrance to the central hall, a multi-functional space that can also be used as an exhibition space by hanging artworks from the ceiling.

 

 

 

Sky Courtyard

 

The courtyard, which is covered with a balcony and a large glass roof, can be used for a variety of purposes, such as an event venue or exhibition space.

 

 

 

East Entrance Lobby

 

The open east entrance lobby is fully enclosed with glass and faces the Japanese garden. You can also stroll through the garden when using the venue for a party.

 

 

 

Japanese Garden

 

This Japanese garden is said to have been designed by Ogawa Jihei VII, one of Kyoto’s leading gardeners of modern times. It is a stroll-style garden that was opened as a place of relaxation and enjoyment, where visitors can experience Kyoto’s four seasons.

Discover the beauty of architecture at a traditional art museum

 

We also offer tours that allow you to fully enjoy the architecture of the oldest public art museum still standing in Japan. The tour is accompanied by commentary from a first-class architect, and you can experience the design unique to art museum architecture from the early Showa period, as well as the beautiful stained glass and marble walls.
